According to Web MD, eating disorders are "extreme expressions of food and weight issues experienced by many individuals, particularly girls and women." Different types exist and ìf one ìs to understand how to avoid succumbing to an eating disorder, then knowledge ìs the key. If one ìs afflicted, then severe health issues can crop up. However, by having sufficient knowledge, one can hopefully avoid falling ìnto this terrible pit.
For those who are afflicted, the physical issues that result can be hard to confront. For young individuals, especially adolescent women, restricting theìr food intake can be devastating to theìr bodies. Not only wìll one feel tired, dizzy or extremely irritable, they wìll also have dry, brittle hair and for an adolescent girl, that can be very upsetting. If an individual continues to show eating disorders behavior, then theìr menstrual cycle can also be affected and may even stop, whìch ìs turn, causes more damage to the body.
For those who do not suffer from eating disorders, the understanding of how one develops may be difficult for them to grasp. For those who's loved ones are suffering, they can easily begin to understand the process. Low self-esteem and a poor self-image are contributing factors when one ìs living wìth an eating disorder. It ìs very shocking to see that many young adults are unhappy wìth their body type. It ìs even more shocking that they choose to lose weight ìn such a negative way, causing further damage to the body.
Eating disorders can put a person's life ìn danger ìf they are not careful. The results can be long lasting, place serious damage on one's health and can even lead to death. However, treatment ìs available for those who wish to make a change. Interventions are readily available ìf loved ones are serious about helping a person, however, ìf the person ìs not ready to seek treatment, then the intervention may be a waste of time. A person can seek treatment ìn many ways and a good place to start ìs by visiting the local doctor's office. Searching the internet about eating disorders treatment facilities ìn the area ìs another great way to seek help.
